CHALLENGE MET
Worked within a tight, occupied space and limited budget to meet a long list of code compliance mandates and community needs

Extensive changes and limited funding made the Gray Public Library’s expansion an exercise in extreme efficiency. Zachau drew on nearly half-a-century of construction management experience to create the plan that brought the project in on time and on budget. Details of the 3,000 square foot expansion included removal of a rooftop cupola, the addition of four new bathrooms, and the creation of a new entrance fitting for this cornerstone of the Gray community. The $1.5M project was designed to get not only every penny out of its budget, but also leverage the space that could serve a wider range of the town’s needs. Two segregated conference rooms were added to the revitalized structure. It now hosts readers during library hours and other community members who need to meet after access to the stacks is closed.
