CHALLENGE MET
Created a cutting-edge space for training the next generation of documentarians to preserve the stories that capture Maine’s rich cultural heritage

Integrity and craftsmanship have been cornerstones of Zachau Construction since the company was first founded in 1969. Overseeing the construction of the Salt Institute’s studios allowed us to serve as a partner championing the storytellers who document the life and history of our state. The project involved the marriage of conventional craftsmanship with the advanced technology required for the school’s photography and recording studios. Those spaces complemented classrooms, a 50-seat theater, and a large street-level gallery designed to shine in the heart of Portland’s thriving arts district. Orchestrating the creation of this LEED-certified space made to nurture local storytellers’ skills was one more way for Zachau to play a privileged part in building the future of Maine.
