Transforming the former St. John’s Church site in South Portland, Thornton Heights Commons brings new affordable housing and commercial space to the community. Located at 611 Main Street, the four-story mixed-use development includes 42 apartments, ground-floor retail space, a satellite police station, outdoor gathering areas, and parking. Developed in collaboration with South Portland Housing Development Corporation, the project incorporates sustainable features such as triple-glazed windows, cross-laminated timber (CLT) components, high-efficiency heating systems, and rooftop solar panels. Granite salvaged from the former church was repurposed, preserving a connection to the site's history. The redevelopment brings new life to a former brownfield site while creating opportunities for housing, business, and community connection.
